Florida Hometown Heroes Program Relaunches: Helping Local Heroes Make Homeownership a Reality

For many Floridians, owning a home is a dream, but rising home prices, interest rates, and the challenge of saving for a down payment can make that dream feel out of reach. The good news? A popular program designed to help Florida’s workforce achieve homeownership is back.

This program was created to support the people who make our communities stronger, the teachers educating our children, healthcare professionals caring for our families, first responders protecting our neighborhoods, military members serving our country, and other essential workers who call Florida home. What Does the Hometown Heroes Program Offer?

Eligible buyers may receive up to 5% of their first mortgage loan amount, with a maximum of $35,000, to assist with down payment and closing costs. The assistance is provided as a 0% interest, deferred second mortgage that becomes due under certain circumstances, such as selling the home, refinancing, transferring the deed, or no longer occupying the home as a primary residence. Who May Qualify?

The program is designed for eligible first-time homebuyers who meet specific requirements, including employment and income guidelines. Eligible occupations may include:

✅ Teachers and school employees
✅ First responders and public safety professionals
✅ Law enforcement officers
✅ Court employees
✅ Childcare workers
✅ Active-duty military, reservists, National Guard members, and veterans employed by Florida-based employers (Florida Realtors)
